I thought I'd follow up my post about our staff with some info about our working set up here at Calvary.
We have 6 workstations in an office suite separated from our main office area (seven if you count the 2nd computer at my station). They are set up as follows:
Station 1 - Video Editing Suite
Dell Computer running Win XP.
Adobe Video Production Premium Suite
2 Dell 21" Wide Screen Displays
2 Studio Quality Speakers
1 JVC MiniDV Tape Deck
1 standard VCR, 2 standard DVD players
Connected so we can print/export directly to our DVD duplicator
This station is connected to a 3+ TB QSan Raid Array Disk Unit where all of our media is stored. All of the computers in our office are connected to the disk array using a network share.
Station 2 - Video Editing Suite
Dell Computer running Win XP.
Adobe Video Production Premium Suite
1 Dell 21" Display
We use station 1 for capturing and exporting, so we don't have capture devices connected to it.
Station 3 (my desk) - Graphics/Video Editing
Dell Computer running Win XP
Adobe Master Collection
1 Dell 21" Wide Screen Display
Wacom Cintiq LCD Tablet as Second Display
I use this computer for a little bit of everything (web design, FLASH development, Photoshop/Illustrator design work, InDesign print work, video production when necessary, etc)
I also have an IBM T43 that I use for email and routine (non-design/video) office work connected via KVM.
Station 4 - Graphic Design
Dell Computer running XP
Adobe Master Collection
1 Wacom Cintix 21" Graphics Tablet Display
21" CRT Display
Station 5 - Admin Area
Basic computer for doing Admin/Office tasks
Station 6 - IT Development
Our IT guy has an IBM T43 that he does most of his work on.
Of course, he's always getting in new computers for various staff and when he needs to he grabs one of them to do testing on.
We primarily use the Adobe Creative Suite (CS3) to do all of our Communications work. We prefer to edit video on Premiere Pro CS3 over Avid and Final Cut because of how nicely it integrates into our work flow with our other Adobe products (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Flash, Dreamweaver, After Effects, etc.). We do have a copy of Avid Express DV on hand in case we ever need it, but we rarely use it. Some freelance vendors we work with use Final Cut on their Mac workstations and we just have them give us a DV-stream or mpg to bring into our workflow.
